On Tuesday 22 January the Ministry of Health received six ambulances from the Chinese ambassador to Dili. The six ambulances were donated by the Chinese Government. This action is aimed at strengthening the ties between the two countries and facilitating the health assistance services to the communities, particularly to those people living in rural areas.

The Minister of Health, Sérgio Lobo, expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Government - represented by its ambassador Mr. Tian Guangfeng – for the support extended. The Minister also informed that, in accordance with the plan of the Ministry of Health, the six ambulances will be made available to district health services, notably health clinics and health centres located in remote areas.

Ambassador Tiang Guangfeng made it a point to mention that “the Chinese Government feels proud for being able to donate these ambulances to the Timorese people given the fact that there is a lack this means of transport to transfer patients from remote areas to the national hospital. The Chinese Government will continue to provide support to the Timorese people not only in the health sector, but also in the economic and agricultural sectors, among other sectors”.
