GNR delivers assets to the Government of Timor-Leste

UNMIT, through the GNR (Portugal’s National Republican Guard) delivered to the Government of Timor-Leste movable and immovable assets (vehicles, furniture and Headquarters) at the GNR’s Headquarters, in Caicoli, Dili, last December 10th, 2012.
In his speech during the ceremony, the Secretary of State for Security, Francisco Guterres, made it known that facilities will be used to provide training to the officials of the Nation Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL), once next year agents will be recruited and will attend the training course of PNTL, administered under the bilateral cooperation between Portugal and Timor-Leste.
The Secretary of State further added that, in this area, the existing cooperation, until now, between Portugal and Timor-Leste consists in support of GNR in recruitment, with basic and specialized training.
Captain Pedro Rosa, GNR’s Contingent Commander, informed that the headquarters was given to the Government of Timor-Leste, is in good condition, being incumbent upon the Government to organize and decide to whom it is intended for.
Present at the ceremony were: the Secretary of State for Security, Francisco Guterres, Director General of Cooperative Services of the Ministry of Finance, Januário da Gama, the National Director of State Assets, Evangelina Aparício Guterres, GNR’s Contingent Commander from Portugal, Captain Pedro Raposa, PNTL’s National Logistics Director and the National Director for Land and Property, Romeu Guterres.
