The Technical Training Centre in Communication (Portuguese acronym: CEFTEC) is promoting training sessions for journalists, after having signed the Cooperation Agreement on Media Issues and four additional protocols with the Government of Portugal, last August.

One of the protocols covers specialized training to journalists from Timor-Leste’s media, having been signed by the Governments of Timor-Leste and Portugal, and by the Portuguese Vocational Training Centre for Journalists (Portuguese acronym: CENJOR).

Programs are being taught in Portuguese by professional trainers from CENJOR, with simultaneous translation into Tetum by translators from the National Directorate of Translation Services.

Four training courses have already been developed (Portuguese Language applied to Journalism, Train of Trainers on Communication, Training for Community Radios and Training in Economy Journalism) aiming 48 professionals from various country media, such as: RTTL; Timor-Post, Diário Nacional; Semanário; Timor Business; Media Fund Foundation; Academic Radio / UNTL; Rádio Liberdade / TLMDC e Community Radio Centre.

New training courses on these subjects are foreseen for 2013, as well as a Radio Training for all private and public radio stations as well as training on Legal Issues’ Journalism.

In partnership with the State Secretariat for Media, under a Cooperation Agreement on Media, CEFTEC is preparing a seminar on communication and interaction with media for national media officers of State bodies, of public institutions and national defence forces, with the participation of national and international speakers, foreseen for December 2012.

Included in the training activities, it is expected the opening of the applications for the Communication Course (for the public sector), due to start in 2013. For more information, check out the Ceftec Timor-Leste’s web page (on Facebook).
