On April 19, 2012, the Ministry of Economy and Development delivered six Mobile Bank units to the Timor-Leste National Bank of Commerce (BNCTL). In May, the BNCTL will send Mobile Bank units to branches in six districts, namely Baucau, Covalima, Dili, Aileu, Viqueque and Lautem to facilitate bank access for those residing in the districts, sub-districts and even in sucos.

The Minister of Economy and Development, João Gonçalves, said that "200,059.00 U.S. dollars were spent in the purchase of the six vehicles, a figure from the 2011 State Budget. This year the Government also intends to buy eight mobile units to provide customer service for BNCTL in thirteen districts".

"The Mobile Bank System is particularly beneficial for the Ministry of Social Solidarity that has faced many difficulties in making payments. Therefore, this system of Mobile Bank services enables payment to civil servants and the elderly to be more effective, and it also facilitates deposits and loans to the general population, especially rural communities that do not have access to transportation to come to the city", stated João Gonçalves.
