Customs Service receives X-Ray systems

On 18 March 18a ceremony was held at Dili Port for the donation by the Government of the People's Republic of China to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste of seven X-ray systems for port inspection.

The Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, the Vice Minister of Finance Rui Manuel Hanjam and the Directorate General of Revenue and Customs welcomed the Ambassador of China, Tian Guangfeng, and Nuctech technicians from the company responsible for manufacturing the inspection systems.

Rui Manuel Hanjam thanked the Government of the People's Republic of Chinafor the generous donation of the equipment, which is symbolic of the the strong relationship between Timor-Leste and China, and Nuctech for the equipment that will reinforce and improve security and customs services inspection at Dili Port.  The equipment will  enable operating Staff to performtheir roles efficiently to control goods and merchandise entering the port.

The Vice Minister of Finance emphasised that the availability of a specialised year long technical training for customs staff to improve competencies and provide the skills to operate this sophisticated technology.

The Prime Minister stressed the fact that Customs is investing in modernising their services, embracing an ambitious reform and development program that integrates the restructuring of its management and operations in accordance with the parameters and best practices established by the World Customs Organization.

The X-Ray equipment will enhance the functioning of Customs to an international standard and is a celebration of the  cooperation between Timor-Leste and China.
