SoSS delivers equipment and vehicles to PNTL

The Government, through the Secretary of State for Security (SoSS), delivered on Friday, March 9, vehicles and other equipment to the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL). Francisco Guterres, Secretary of State for Security, delivered directly to the General Commander of PNTL Commissioner Longuinhos Monteiro, the following equipment: one forklift elevator, two mini-vans, a truck for carrying potable water, fifteen motorised Suzuki Hander 125, 15 Kawasaki motorcycles, 30 Toyota Hilux cars, 700 covers for rain, 640 lanterns, 600 portable mattresses, 10 tents, 700 shields, 18 floodlights and 700 pairs of gloves.

Commissioner Longuinhos Monteiro thanked the Government, particularly the Ministry of Defence and Security through the Secretary of State for Security, for having provided the materials and police equipment that have been always been considered a need by the PNTL and the organs of sovereigntyand which reflects the needs of the realities  of in the districts with regard to the challenges faced by police in undertaking their functions with a lack of necessary equipment.

"The professionalism of our agents is measured not only by the human resources but also by the means they use to fulfill their obligations. This equipment will greatly contribute to their professionalism", said Longuinhos Monteiro while at the same time he requested the units and departments in the districts to ensure the proper use of vehicles for operational police activities.

The Secretary of State for Security, in turn, highlighted the commitment of the IV Constitutional Government in protecting the dignity of the PNTL in regard to its  undertaking its duties  to defend the sovereignty of the State, in recognition that the PNTL represents an important pillar in the development of democracy. The accountability and monitoring of vehicles and equipment by the Commanders was one of the requirements set out by Francisco Guterres.
