Timor-Leste participates in the meeting of ASEAN Ministers for Sport

The Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, Miguel Manetelo attended the first meeting of Ministers for Sport of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), held between 13 and 16 December 2011 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports said that the meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation and develop sport in Asian countries, as well as discuss the possibility of ASEAN to host the 2030 World Cup. The proposal is to be submitted to FIFA.
Miguel Manetelo believes that "even participating only as an observer country, the meeting also served to demonstrate the importance of Timor-Leate in joining ASEAN".
The Ministers for Sport of Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Laos, Myanmar to, Brunei and the Philippines participated in the meeting.
