Ministry of Finance launches the Fo Fila Fali Sensus

The Government, represented by the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UNICEF, launched the Fo Fila Fali Census for every suco of Timor-Leste, on Friday November 4, at the Convention Center in Díli.
In his speech, the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, said: "It is with great pleasure that I participate in this ceremony to launch the Fo Fila Fali Census, after extensive work conducted in 2010 by the National Directorate of Statistics, under the Ministry of Finance, in updating the statistics of reference of our country’s reality and the experience of our People."
The Prime Minister added, "We know that a nation is composed of a territory and its respective population. Therefore, the Government has an obligation to know its population and it is in this sense that we give special importance to the outcome of the 2010 census. The Government, to implement better policies for our People, has to know how many we are, how we are, where we live and how we live. Only with a real porrait of the population living in Timor-Leste can you invest more effectively in the areas of health, education, housing and other basic infrastructure.
Xanana Gusmão reminded that the Strategic Development Plan, launched in July, aims to bring progress to the country and set a policy and a national development program that represents the aspirations of the People in the development of Timor-Leste over the next twenty years, and that focuses on three main areas such as: capital, infrastructure and economic development.
On the same occasion, the Finance Minister, Emília Pires, stated that in 2010 the Government, represented by the Ministry of Finance, by means of the National Directorate of Statistics, had collected information on the population in Timor-Leste, from each district, suco and family.
The release of the Fo Fila Fali Census was attended by the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, the Minister of Finance, Emília Pires, the President of the Court of Appeal, Cláudio Ximenes, the Attorney General's Office Ana Pessoa Pinto; Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Timor-Leste, Ameraah Haq, the representative of the Members of National Parliament, Natalino dos Santos, the President of the Civil Service Commission, Libório Pereira, the UNICEF representative, the representative of UNFPA, Pornchai Suchitta; members of the Government and international and national NGOs.
