Ministry of Health signs Note of Understanding with FHFNZ

The Ministry of Health, represented by its Director-General, Agapito da Silva Soares, signed on October 5, a Note of Understanding with The Fred Hollows Foundation New Zealand (FHFNZ) represented by its Country Manager, Amanda Whyte. This Note of Understanding reflects the contribution, the responsibility and right of both parties with regards to the FHFNZ Workforce Development Plan (DPW).

"In that Note of Understanding, both parties agree that the Timorese citizens should have access to eye protection materials to ensure eye health during their working period. Eye diseases can be prevented if measures for prevention and rehabilitation are taken and curative measures are disclosed", said Agapito da Silva.

The role of FHFNZ is to control eye diseases and treat patients through the provision of clinical services, develop efforts to prevent problems related to vision, through education, promotion and support for the health sector. The Ministry of Health is responsible for making the framework of the policy, programs and work plan for the provision of eye health care, Agapito said.
