The Ministry of Social Solidarity (MoSS), through the Secretariat of State for Social Assistance and Natural Disasters, delivered, on September 9, construction materials to communities from the Tasilin suco, in the Zumalai sub-district, district of Covalima, in order to iniiate the reconstruction of houses burned during the recent confrontation between martial arts groups.

Before the delivery of materials, the Ministry promoted a dialogue between the communities in Zumalai sub-district, in particular the villages of Gallitas and Boroikun, in the Tasilin suco, with the KORKA and PSHT martial arts groups. This dialogue resulted in the compromise, before the community authorities and government officials, to avoid repetition of these actions in the future.

The Secretary of State for Social Assistance and Natural Disasters, Jacinto Gomes de Deus, asked the Tasilin suco community, particularly the martial arts groups, for cooperation in the rebuilding of the burned houses, thus promoting the atmosphere of peace and harmony between the groups and the community.

At this point, Jacinto Gomes de Deus gave to each of the 67 families: 50 sheets of zinc, 22 iron bars, 25 bags of cement, 10 kg of nails, two rolls of wire, and funds for manpower in the amount of $150 and $218 for the purchase of beams.

The chief of Tasilin suco, Agostinho Pereira, said that while more aid is needed, this can reduce the difficulties that families have been facing.
