Ministry of Social Solidarity receives support from UNDP

The Ministry of social Solidarity (MoSS), more specifically the Secretariat of State for Social Assistance and Natural Disasters, received on September 5, support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). UNDP has delivered: 13 motorcycles, 13 laptops, 15 printers, a projector, a generator (brand Kippor) 15 T3G, nine mobile phones, a server database of the beneficiaries, wages for 13 focal points from 13 districts including two contracted advisors, one national and one international.

In the ceremony to deliver the equipment, the Secretary of State for Social Assistance and Natural Disasters, Jacinto Gomes de Deus, thanked the UNDP for the support provided, also referring that this is intended to, in the future, facilitate the “Bolsa da Mãe” service program and launch the Single Social Registration for the beneficiaries of this program.

Jacinto Gomes de Deus added that the “Bolsa de Mãe” program, implemented since 2008, has approximately 15,000 beneficiaries and now has the opportunity to be extended and improved. On this basis, the MSS launched the Single Social Registry for a better identification of the vulnerable families, including the number of children per single mothers, and whom is entitled to the Bolsa da Mãe. The Secretary of State asked the program focal points to take care of the equipment received to facilitate the service of the ministry.

Nelson de Jesus, the Covalima district focal point, said: "As a Timorese, I will perform this function with the capacities that I have to better serve the most vulnerable people, particularly those most in need, namely mothers and children. We are pleased to be trusted by the Government to carry out this function and, on our part, we will work with responsibility. "Luisa Fernandes, another focal point from the Lautém District, also shared the same opinion.

The National Director of Social Welfare, Carmen da Cruz, the UNDP Deputy, Noura Hamladji, the Head of the Department of Protection of Vulnerable Children and Mothers, Florenço Gonzaga, the Head of the Department of Mass Media, João Bosco de Jesus Mendonça as well as advisors, public servants and the focal points from 13 districts attended the ceremony for the delivery of equipment.
