On August 22, the Secretary of State for Promotion of Equality (SoSPE), Idelta Rodrigues, and the Irish Embassy representative in Timor-Leste, Michael Shanahan, signed in the SoSPE building at the Government Palace, a Note of Understanding aiming the support of the Gender Working Group.

In this Note of Understanding, the Irish Aid provides financial support with the value of U.S. $ 148,793 for the "Inter-ministerial Coordination Support through the Gender Working Group".

Idelta Rodrigues said that the program will enable the Working Group on Gender, at the inter-ministerial level, which will replace the Inter-Ministerial Gender Focal Point. "Right now there is a focal point in each ministry and in the districts, which plays a role in regards to matters relating to gender. We want to establish the Gender Working Group to reinforce what has been done. The Gender Working Group will be led by the Director-General of each ministry" she said.

"Since 2002 we have supported the effort of the Timor-Leste Government to promote gender equality in this young nation," said Michael Shanahan.
This project will run from August this year.
