MARC and SoSYS take measures regarding martial arts in Covalima

Taking into account the latest incidents that have taken place in Covalima, the President for the Martial Arts Regulating Commission, Teófilo Tomás de Deus, together with the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Miguel Manetelo, held a press conference this Friday, on the measures taken regarding martial arts in the Covalima District.
Teófilo Tomás de Deus and Miguel Manetelo began by lamenting the acts occurred in Covalima, demonstrating their solidarity and support towards the victims and their family members.
They also referred that the Martial Arts Regulating Commission (MARC) and the Secretariat of State for Youth and Sports (SSYS) will take all the legal measures, in accordance to their competencies, to avoid that this type of incidents do not happen again and to protect the dignity, legitimacy and interest of the practice of Martial Arts in Timor-Leste.
Thus, they decided to proceed to the preventive suspension of all activities related to martial arts in the Covalima District, including the use of attributes related to these activities, a initiate a disciplinary process to investigate the facts, identify the responsible persons and apply the respective sanctions. Besides the MARC disciplinary action, the competent authorities will proceed with legal action against the alleged culprits.
MARC will act in a coordinated way with SSYS, with the Secretariat of State for Defence and the Secretariat of State for Security, the Timor-Leste National Police and the Armed Forces of Timor-Leste, to ensure the fulfillment of the decision.
