Asia-Pacific EITI Regional Conference in Timor-Leste

Timor-Leste will be the host of the first Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on the Transparency Initiative (EITI). The conference will be held at the Convention Center in Dili (CCD) from August 25 to 26, with the theme "Beyond EITI: Timor-Leste a model of transparency,".
The conference will be attended by ministers and civil society representatives from the CPLP, ASEAN, and g7 + EITI implementing countries. The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative will be discussed as a global standard for transparency, and responsibility, in countries with oil, natural gas and other mineral resources and comes in the context of the establishment of a practice that promotes transparency and accountability in these countries, through the publication and verification of funds from the production of gas and minerals delivered to the Government by the companies.
The EITI is an international coalition of developed countries, donors, Extractive Industries companies, civil society organizations, investors and international organizations. Timor-Leste ranks first in Asia, and third worldwide as a country compliant with the EITI and can be taken as an example since it precisely accounts for the money paid by oil companies operating in Timor-Leste, and the money paid to the Government.
Timor-Leste, through Mr. Alfredo Pires, the Secretary of State for Natural Resources, was elected as a member of the EITI International Council in 2009 and reelected in 2011.
