Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries initiates a hybrid rice harvest in the Manatuto district

On July 15, the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Mariano Assanami Sabino and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Timor-Leste, were in the district of Manatuto to symbolically initiate the harvest of hybrid rice. This crop was grown in a plot of 25 hectares and had the support of the chinese government.
The Head of Government thanked the support of the chinese government "for when it comes to development in Timor-Leste, agriculture is a very important area. Because world food security is a crucial issue, we must ensure that we can guarantee the production in our own country, "said the Prime Minister.
"I thank, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the support provided by the chinese government in the agriculture sector, in the Manatuto district. This support focused on the cultivation of hybrid rice and the training of 31 Timorese from all over the country, regarding agriculture techniques, and allows us to keep this seed in the future ", highlighted Mariano Assanami Sabino.
The Director of the Agriculture Services in the district of Manatuto, Deolindo de Oliveira, considered that this year's harvest, 200 acres, demonstrates a positive outcome regarding the cooperation between our government and the chinese Government, in the agriculture sector.
