MED offered 50 cows to a Cooperative Group

On July 2, the Minister for Economy and Development (MED), João Mendes Gonçalves, offered 50 cows to the Cooperative group Credit Union of Timor Maffo (CCUTM), from the village of Pune, Usi Tasae suco, Oesilo sub-district, Oe-Cusse Ambeno district.

"The Government is committed to support the cooperative groups in Timor-Leste, in this sense we have offered cows to the Cooperative Credit Union of Timor Maffo. This offering was a priority for this group to carry out its economic activities and so its members can have a sustainable income for their survival"said João Mendes Gonçalves.

On this occasion, the president of CCUTM, Jorge Paixão, thanked the support given by the Government suggesting that the Ministry of Economy and Development, through the National Directorate of Rural Development, continues to provide support for the group to increase and improve its development in the future. Jorge Paixão said that the Cooperative Credit Union of Timor Maffo was created with the aim of educating people and families, teach them about savings, in order to reduce poverty in the Usi Tasae suco.
