Timor-Leste and Portugal strenghten bilateral relations in the area of Energy Policy

On May 19, in the Government Palace, the Timor-Leste Secretary of State for Energy Policy, Avelino Coelho and the Administrator for Electricity of Portugal (EDP) International, Paulo Miraldo, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Timor-Leste and Portugal in the Energy Policy area.

“In the scope of this agreement, EDP International will render services in the area of energy consultancy, development of viability studies and training of Timorese technicians in the energy area”, said the Secretary of State for Energy Policy.

The visit to Timor-Leste by the EDP International Administrator, Paulo Miraldo and the Administrator of the EDP Foundation, Sérgio Figueiredo, confirmed the interest of the company in helping Timor with the know-how it has of the area, said the Administrator of EDP International. Another of the issues discussed was the possibility of the development a new management model for Timor-Leste’s electricity beginning from 2012 onwards.
