Ministry of Health Lays Foundation Stone for New Warehouse of the National Institute of Pharmacy and Medical Products
On July 10th, 2026, the Ministry of Health laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new warehouse for the National Institute of Pharmacy and Medical Products (INFPM) in Kampung Alor, Dili. The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Health, Élia A.A. dos Reis Amaral, and was attended by the Executive Director of the INFPM, Paulina Mendonça Maher.
The project provides for the construction of a three-storey building, funded at 5.58 million US dollars, aimed at strengthening national capacity for storing and managing medicines and medical devices, as well as improving the efficiency and safety of their distribution to health facilities across the territory.
In her address, the Minister of Health stated that “this project represents an important step towards ensuring better storage conditions for medical products, guaranteeing their quality when distributed to patients in health facilities.”
The Minister also emphasised that the project is financed through public funds, calling on the contractor to ensure high standards of accountability, transparency, and technical quality. “The construction of this building is being carried out using State resources; therefore, the contractor must fulfil its responsibility with transparency and in accordance with technical standards to avoid future risks.” She further maintained that “we all have a duty and an obligation to protect and ensure its quality and good results in the future.”
The completion of the project will strengthen the logistical capacity of the national health system by improving the preservation and distribution conditions for medicines, medical equipment, and other essential products.
