From June 23rd to 25th, 2026, in Paris, France, Health Minister Élia A.A. dos Reis Amaral attended the High-Level Strategic Meeting of the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH), held under the French G7 Presidency. The meeting brought together health ministers, representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations agencies, and international partners to strengthen cooperation in addressing the health impacts of climate change.

The discussions focused on strengthening health systems' adaptation to climate change, integrating climate data into health early-warning systems, protecting the most vulnerable populations from the effects of heat waves and floods, developing sustainable health infrastructure, and mobilising more funding to support climate action in the health sector. 731093501_901137132248124_1069796515927753648_n 730695499_1011306704982739_5235979848584983225_n 731105449_1528977912062566_5327241757737037941_n

The meeting was attended by the health ministers of France, Senegal, Paraguay, Côte d'Ivoire, Bangladesh, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, the Maldives, Spain, and Timor-Leste, along with senior representatives from the World Health Organisation, the United Nations, and various technical partners.

In the meeting’s final statement, participants reaffirmed that climate change is one of the greatest threats to global health and committed to accelerating the implementation of resilient and sustainable health systems, strengthening international cooperation through ATACH, and mobilising additional funding to protect people’s health from the impacts of climate change.

ATACH is an alliance led by the World Health Organisation that brings together more than a hundred countries and partner organisations to support the transformation of health systems into ones that are more resilient to climate change, more sustainable, and lower in carbon emissions, while also promoting the integration of health into national climate action policies.
