SOSPTE and the USA Embassy sign a Memorandum of Understanding about the PAS Program

Last April 8, the Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment, Bendito Freitas, and the United States of America Ambassador in Timor-Leste, Judith R. Fergin, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the purpose of providing basic training in construction to youngsters, namely the one’s who live in Oe-cusse Ambeno, through the PAS program (Prepara Ami ba Servisu).
PAS is a program offered by the United States of America with the purpose of increasing capacity of the youth, in this case from Oe-cusse Ambeno, to integrate the working market. Through training, the youngsters can acquire some basic knowledge to be able to actively participate in the National Development Strategic Plan, especially in the infrastructure area.
In her speech, the Ambassador for the United States of America in Timor-Leste said: “The United States of America are prepared to continue to support youngsters so that they can participate and contribute for national development. Thus, the signature of this Memorandum of Understanding has the objective of developing human resources in the rural areas, especially youth that have difficulties in following their studies”.
The PAS (Prepara Ami ba Servisu) counted with the support of the United States of America International Development Agency, Education for Development Centre (EDC), with a budget of 5,5 million American dollars.
