The opening of this One-Stop-Shop is part of the process of administrative modernisation and bringing public services closer to the public, enabling citizens to access various government services at a single location with greater speed, simplicity, and transparency. The new facility is specifically designed to reduce the time, costs, and need for travel for people who live far from the capital.

Services such as issuing identity cards, passports, and criminal record certificates are now available at the Lautém One-Stop-Shop. The operation of this facility results from coordination between the Ministry of State Administration, various ministries, and public organisations, notably the Ministry of Justice, which is responsible for the document issuance system, and the Ministry of Transport and Communications, which ensures the connectivity needed for the service to operate. The initiative also has the support of the UNDP, a partner in this process since 2023.

In his remarks, the Minister of State Administration noted that One-Stop-Shops have already been established in Manatuto, Baucau, Dili, Ataúro, Liquiçá, Aileu, Manufahi, Covalima, Oe-Cússe, and Bobonaro, and have now been inaugurated in Lautém. He also noted that the One-Stop-Shop in Ermera is expected to open soon, and that those in Viqueque and Ainaro are already under construction.

He also stated that “the One-Stop-Shop brings the Government closer to the people by bringing together in a single location the services citizens need to handle their paperwork more easily.”

The President of the Lautém Municipal Authority, Mélio de Jesus, expressed his gratitude to the Government for building the new facility, noting that this infrastructure will enhance the population’s access to public services and make it easier to obtain official documents within the municipality.

With this launch, the Government continues to expand the network of One-Stop-Shops across the country to strengthen the presence of public services in municipalities and make it easier for the public to access government services.
