Bilateral Cooperation between the Governments of Timor-Leste and Germany

This Wednesday, March 16, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zacarias Albano da Costa, met with a German delegation lead by the Head of the Southeast Asian Division, from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Joseph Füllenbach, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s conference room.
The Minister informed that Timor-Leste has recently established a partnership with several Nations, where this one, with the German Government, is the eighth, in the context of the bilateral consultation characterized by a policy of dialogue with Germany and which takes place annually aiming at the verification and evaluation of the projects already implemented in Timor-Leste.
“In this meeting we went over the projects integrated in the several areas, namely: youth employment and prevention of conflicts, where the Ministries for Agriculture and Fisheries, Economy and Development and Infrastructures are involved. The biggest project, of bilateral cooperation between Timor-Leste and Germany, is the maritime transport project” highlighted the Minister.
“The maritime transport project began with the construction of the Berlim-Nakroma Boat, it includes the construction of instruments, technical support availability for training and construction of workshops for the fleet maintenance in Tibar. Soon the German Government will make available another big boat, counting that the Timor-Leste Government contributes with the maritime port construction in the South Coast”, concluded Zacarias da Costa.
The German Government committed itself, through this meeting, to give the financial support of € 400 000 (four hundred thousand Euros), for the construction of the maritime port in the South Coast region and in Tibar for the fleet maintenance services.
