The Secretariat of State for Promotion of Equality (SSPE) carried out, last week, a seminar with the purpose of verifying the progress of the implementation and approach regarding gender integration in the relevant institutions that signed the Dili Declaration, in March 2008.

The Secretariat of State for Promotion of Equality cooperates with the relevant Ministries, in order to give greater importance to the implementation of the Dili Compromise. The Secretary of State appealed to the General-Directors and National Directors for their participation in the gender implementation process within their respective Ministries, since it’s each Ministry responsibility.

“It falls upon each of you to know about the Gender Equality Policy, designated as Gender Ministerial Policy, since Timor-Leste will become member of the CEDAW in the next four years” informed Idelta Rodrigues.

On the same occasion, the General-Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAP), Lourenço B. Fontes, in his intervention, referred that “women’s involvement is very significant, thus the MAP continues to give attention to the gender equality issue in the agricultural development process. The MAP, through its staff on the ground, gives training to farmer groups, women and men.”

The interim General-Director of the Secretariat for Professional Training and Employment (SEFOPE), Jacinto Barros Gusmão, took this opportunity to inform that “the SEFOPE’s progress within the scope of the Gender Equality Promotion assumes two measures: one regarding quality, where women already occupy leadership posts, and another in what concerns quantity, shown by the number of trainings provided.”
