Vice Minister for Parliamentary Affairs holds institutional meetings in Portugal
On December 9th, 2025, Vice Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Adérito Hugo da Costa held institutional meetings with Portuguese political leaders in Lisbon as part of an official visit aimed at enhancing political dialogue and bilateral cooperation. 
The Vice Minister for Parliamentary Affairs met with Portugal's Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Carlos Abreu Amorim, in a meeting that facilitated an exchange of information on the coordination mechanisms between the Portuguese Government and Parliament, with particular emphasis on the role of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in political coordination and institutional liaison between the two sovereign powers. 
During the meeting, mutual interest topics discussed included Timor-Leste's active participation in the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as the contribution both countries can make to promote joint initiatives in the Portuguese-speaking world. 
During the official visit, the Vice Minister was welcomed by the Vice-President of the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic, Rodrigo Saraiva, at an audience held at São Bento Palace. The meeting focused on the functioning of the Portuguese Parliament and the challenges and opportunities faced by the Timorese parliamentary system, encouraging an exchange of institutional experiences.
The two sides discussed priority areas for bilateral cooperation, focusing on education, staff training, institutional strengthening, and the promotion of the Portuguese language. The importance of parliamentary diplomacy in deepening interparliamentary relations and reinforcing the historic ties between the two countries was also emphasised.
Vice Minister Adérito Hugo da Costa reaffirmed the Government of Timor-Leste's commitment to further enhance the quality of the legislative process and cooperation among sovereign bodies, acknowledging the Portuguese Parliament as a benchmark for institutional maturity and an important source of learning for the modernisation of the national parliament.
The meetings took place in an atmosphere of cordiality and cooperation, reaffirming the historical, political, and cultural ties between Timor-Leste and Portugal and fostering deeper institutional dialogue and bilateral cooperation.
