In the beginning of this year, the Secretary of State for Defence, Júlio Tomás Pinto, accompanied by Colonel Falur Rate Laek, met in Lisbon with the Portuguese Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, João Cravinho.

During the meeting three issues were discussed, namely the placement of a Timor-Leste Defence Attaché in Portugal, the Peacekeeping Forces and installation of a Portuguese Language Centre in Metinaro.

The Secretary of State Júlio Tomás Pinto, underlined that “the existence of a Timor-Leste Defence Attaché in Portugal is important, because many F-FDTL officials are attending the course in Portugal and say they need more support than the that offered by the Timor-Leste Embassy. The Portuguese Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation agreed with this idea. However this issue will be discussed with the Minister of Defence and Security, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and with The Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Taur Matan Ruak, and very shortly a selection will be made for the Timor-Leste Defence Attaché for Portugal”, concluded Júlio Tomás Pinto.
