Timor-Leste celebrates its Natinal Day at Expo 2025 Osaka

On August 28th, Timor-Leste celebrated its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, in Japan, in a ceremony that reaffirmed the country's national identity, cultural diversity, and development potential before the international community.
The event took place at the National Day Hall “Ray Garden” and brought together more than 200 guests, including diplomatic representatives, Japanese authorities, and international partners. The Timorese delegation was led by the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, guest of honour at the ceremony, accompanied by Japan's Minister of State responsible for Expo 2025, Yoshitaka Ito, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Coordinator for Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Environment, Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, as well as representatives of the National Parliament and several members of the Government.
In his speech, the Head of State highlighted Timor-Leste's commitment to international cooperation, emphasizing the country's trajectory as a young, dynamic democracy committed to global dialogue.
The program included dance, music, and traditional arts performances that showcased the richness of Timorese cultural heritage. At the same time, the Timor-Leste Pavilion, located in the area dedicated to ASEAN Member States, gave visitors the opportunity to learn about the country's crafts, cuisine, and tourist destinations, projecting an image of the country as an attractive place for investment and cultural exchange in the Asia-Pacific region.
After the ceremony, the President of the Republic, the Vice-Prime Minister, parliamentary representatives, and members of the Government visited the Timor-Leste Pavilion and other national spaces at the Expo, promoting ties of friendship and cooperation.
Broadcast on Japanese television channel NHK and also in virtual format, Timor-Leste's National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka reinforced the country's international profile, consolidated its friendship with Japan and with regional and global partners, and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to building a sustainable, inclusive, and open future.
Expo 2025 Osaka began on April 13th
and runs until October 13th, under the theme “Designing the future society for our lives.”
