Timor-Leste and Australia Strengthen Cooperation to Enchance Border Control and Prevent Organized Crime

On August 25th, 2025, the Minister of the Interior, Francisco da Costa Guterres, signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding between the Directorate-General of Migration Services of Timor-Leste and the Australian Department of Home Affairs during the ceremony The Memorandum was signed by the Director-General of the Migration Service, Assistant Commissioner Adelaide da Rosa, and the Secretary-General of the Australian Department of Home Affairs, Stephanie Foster, in the presence of the Australian Minister for Home Affairs, Tony Burke.
This agreement aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the area of migration, particularly in strengthening border management and combating organized crime, while promoting the training of human resources in both institutions.
The renewal of this Memorandum reflects the ongoing strategic partnership between Timor-Leste and Australia, underscoring the shared commitment to ensuring greater security and efficiency in migration and border control systems.
