The Government is developing the implementation of animal vaccination in Timor-Leste, a measure integrated in the Animal Health Program that is being implemented by the National Directorate for Livestock and Veterinary.

“Currently we are facing big difficulties regarding vaccine acquisition due to the procurement process, which is, for this specific case, expensive and complicated. But we are preparing a request for funds to purchase vaccines and medicine”, explains Valentino Varela. The Secretary of State for Livestock considers that “this measure will contribute for the growth of the sector, with this animal vaccination system we can reach success in Animal Production Centres scattered through the country”.

The Government has already established veterinary clinics and monitoring teams that go to the animal breeders to accompany the animals’ health condition and to proceed with treatments, when necessary. For now, six are the districts that count with these support services– Bobonaro, Covalima, Ainaro, Manufahi, Baucau and Manatuto – but the Government intends to create more veterinary practices in other locations through the country.
