Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Meets with the Ambassador of European Union

The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, met today, July 24th, 2025, at the Government Palace, with the Ambassador of the European Union to Timor-Leste, Marc Fiedrich, in a farewell meeting marking the end of his diplomatic mission in the country.
Ambassador Marc Fiedrich announced that he will soon begin a new stage in his diplomatic career in Myanmar. He considered it to be an important challenge and expressed his satisfaction at continuing to serve in the Southeast Asian region.
During the meeting, they discussed Timor-Leste's full accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), scheduled for October this year. The Minister and the diplomat highlighted the contributions that Timor-Leste could offer to the regional bloc.
At the meeting, the Ambassador referred to the recommendations of the Final Report of the European Union Election Observation Mission and the joint study with the European Investment Bank on the potential of the agroforestry sector in Timor-Leste. He stressed the importance of continuing to promote the strengthening of democratic institutions and adopting measures that contribute to transparency and public confidence in electoral processes, as well as investing in productive sectors capable of generating employment and supporting the diversification of the national economy, such as the forestry sector.
Minister Agio Pereira thanked the European Union for its continued support and highlighted its contributions to economic diversification and employment promotion in Timor-Leste. He wished the Ambassador success in his new mission and reiterated the Government's commitment to maintaining and deepening cooperation with the European Union. END
