Minister Agio Pereira Meets with Executive Director and Members of the International Advisory Board of the Chega Centre!

On July 10th, 2025, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, welcomed the Executive Director of the National Chega! Centre, Hugo Maria Fernandes, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Manuel M. Pereira, and members of the International Advisory Board of the Chega! Centre to the Government Palace in Dili.
During the meeting, the various aspects of the National Chega! Centre’s mission were discussed, as well as the areas in which the members of the International Advisory Council contribute to strengthening the institution.
The International Advisory Council was appointed by order of Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão on September 27th, 2023, for a three-year term from 2023 to 2026. The following members attended the meeting with Minister Agio Pereira: David Scott Webster (Canada), Sandra Marisa Ramos Gonçalves (Portugal), Akihisa Matsuno (Japan), Alan Michael Lapsley (South Africa), Galuh Wandita Soedjatmoko (Indonesia), Augusto Jr. Miclat (Philippines), and Khoo Ying Hooi (Malaysia).
With different profiles and diverse experiences, the members of the Council were appointed to support the National Chega! Centre in consolidating its role as a human rights institution, in line with the objectives set out in its Strategic Plan. The Council's support also focuses on the internationalisation of the Chega! Movement’s Report and the recommendations of the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation (CAVR) and the Truth and Friendship Commission (CVA), within the framework of programs for the preservation of historical memory, education, solidarity, and dissemination of the legacy of the CAVR and the Plan for Monitoring the Implementation of its Recommendations.
