Timor-Leste Participates in International Forum on Maritime Economy and Fisheries in China

Timor-Leste participated, through the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macau Forum), in the Forum on Economic and Fisheries Development, which took place from June 13th to 15th 2025, in the city of Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China.
The Timorese delegation attended the Taiwan Strait Fishing Industry Week, the 17th China International Fisheries Exhibition and the ‘Smart Navigation’ Forum, where opportunities for economic and technical cooperation in the fisheries sector were discussed.
During the session dedicated to Portuguese-speaking countries, the Delegate of Timor-Leste to the Macau Forum, António Ramos da Silva, highlighted the country's investment potential, particularly in the fisheries sector. During his speech, the Timorese delegate also emphasized the advances in connectivity between Timor-Leste and China, highlighting the start of direct flights between Dili and Xiamen, operated by the national airline ‘Aéreo Dili’ since February 2025, and the growing maritime cooperation
At the China International Fisheries Expo, Timor-Leste presented its strategic vision for the development of the blue economy as a driver of sustainable growth. Its participation sparked the interest of several Chinese companies in the fields of aquaculture, engineering and marine technologies, including the Fujian Fishery Engineering Construction and Design Institute and Fujian Xinmao Fishery Development Co., Ltd.
