The 9th Constitutional Government welcomes the publication of the Global Peace Index 2025, released on June 18th, 2025, by the Institute for Economics & Peace, which recognizes Timor-Leste as a country with a “High Level of Peace”. Timor-Leste now ranks 44th out of 163 states and territories evaluated, up five places from the previous report, with an overall score of 1.758. Screenshot 2025-06-20 164742

The report, which measures levels of social security, internal and external conflicts, and the degree of militarization in each country, reveals a further deterioration in peace worldwide - the sixth in a row - while Timor-Leste consolidates its position among the most peaceful countries in the Asia-Pacific region, ranking 10th out of 19 countries in the region. The improvement is mainly the result of continued low levels of conflict and positive indicators in the area of Security and Safety of Society. Screenshot 2025-06-20 164819

Based on 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators, the Global Peace Index assesses the state of peace in three key domains: the level of Society's Safety and Security, the extent of ongoing National and International Conflicts and the degree of Militarization, providing a comprehensive analysis of global peace trends and their economic value.

The government welcomes this positive development, which reflects the national commitment to promoting stability, strengthening democratic institutions and continued investment in sustainable development.  Screenshot 2025-06-20 164758
