One of the main measures that the Secretary for State of Culture intends to run in 2011 is the presentation of the Law on Cultural Heritage project. "The measure is included in our strategic plan. The Law is a fundamental instrument for the protection, preservation and enhancement of cultural heritage," said Secretary of State of Culture, Virgílio Simith. The project must first be approved by the Council of Ministers and then by the National Parliament.

Another project planned for next year, culture wise, is not only launching the tender for the construction of the National Library but also to start it. "We have a partnership with the French Cooperation, to develop comparative studies to see a library, a museum and cultural center works. First we must understand and study the case, so we can then apply what best suits the project we are developing. We want to have an idea of how museums and other cultural institutions work and then adapt the methodology to our country, "said Virgílio Simith.

The study and preservation of traditional culture will remain, also in 2011, with the on going identification and promotion of Timorese musical instruments, songs and dances. "We found that some of the songs, dances, and above all some of the traditional instruments are disappearing. Some are already identified and in the districts, officials of the Secretary of State have been instructed to begin and handle its preservation. The older instruments, or replicas, are likely to be exposed in the future National Museum," concludes the Secretary of State for Culture.
