Minister of Health inaugurates Hospitalization Room and Medicines Warehouse in Viqueque and Announces Start of Construction of a New Municipal Hospital in 2026

On April 14th, 2025, the Minister of Health, Élia A.A. dos Reis Amaral, inaugurated a new hospitalization room and a warehouse for medicines at the health services of Viqueque municipality, which reinforces the IX Government’s commitment to improving the provision of quality, safe and accessible healthcare to the population throughout the national territory.
During the ceremony, the Minister said that ‘the inauguration of the hospitalization room and the medicines warehouse is an important step in the IX Government's commitment to providing quality, safe, accessible healthcare to the population throughout the territory’. He also emphasized that the new warehouse "represents a fundamental step towards improving the management and availability of necessary and essential medicines in the Viqueque Municipal Health Services. By locating the warehouse close to the community, we can solve a few problems related to medicines.
She also emphasized that the proximity of the new warehouse to health units will improve the safety and quality of medicines, while making it easier for health professionals to order and distribute them. Regarding the new hospitalization room, installed in the space previously dedicated to isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Minister highlighted its potential to strengthen long-term medical care provided locally. ‘I believe that health professionals can improve the quality of long-term care for our population or for patients who need to be monitored by doctors in Viqueque hospitalization”, she said.
On the same occasion, the Minister announced that the Government plans to lay the foundation stone for the construction of a new Municipal Hospital in Viqueque in 2026, as part of the strategic plan to strengthen hospital infrastructure at national level.
The inauguration was attended by the President of the Municipal Authority of Viqueque, officials from the Central Services of the Ministry of Health, the Director of the Municipal Health Services of Viqueque, representatives of the National Police of Timor-Leste, administrative and local authorities, representatives of religious denominations, the media, students, members of the community and other guests.
