ASEAN's Future Leader Programme Attracts Over 470 Young People for Second Edition
The second edition of the Futuru Líder ba ASEAN - Future Leaders for ASEAN (FLBA) programme received more than 470 applications. The interview process, which has already begun, will run until the end of December 2024 to select the group of 100 future leaders who will start the programme in 2025.
The selection process is being conducted by a panel of FLBA advisors and former graduates of the programme's first edition. Registered candidates are encouraged to check their emails and phone calls regularly to ensure they receive the interview invitation.
On the occasion of the launch of the programme's first edition, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão stressed that “Timor-Leste's development is dependent, more than ever, on our human resources and the empowerment of our human potential. That is why we are investing in the next generation of leaders”. The Prime Minister also expressed his belief that ‘investing in future leaders will help our country to face global challenges better, promote innovation and contribute to a sustainable and prosperous future’.
The FLBA is an intensive 12-month programme designed to empower young leaders through leadership training, a ten-day immersion in an ASEAN country, action learning projects focused on Timor-Leste's strategic development and career planning geared towards leadership and entrepreneurship.
Funded by the Government of Timor-Leste through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the programme's main objective is to prepare the country's next generation of leaders to contribute to national development and ASEAN integration. The Office of the Vice Minister for ASEAN Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation runs the programme.
