Government Launches Integrated Community Development Project in Liquiçá
On December 8th, 2024, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Rural Development and Community Housing, Mariano Assanami Sabino, officially launched the project to implement integrated activities in Hamlets (Aldeia) Mota-Ikun, Village (Suco) Mota-Ulun (Kaitehu), in Liquiçá. It aims to strengthen the economic and social development of the local community through integrated and sustainable initiatives.
The activities include fish farming, a cafeteria, sports fields, leisure spaces, and community tourism initiatives. These actions are in line with the Government's strategy of fostering economic growth at the local level and promoting community organisation. Plans are also underway to build a lodge inspired by the traditional house of this Village (Suco) and a multi-purpose hall for events such as seminars and community celebrations.
“With these activities, as well as improving the Hamlets (aldeias) economy, we aim to promote a change of mentality in society, encouraging joint work within a participatory democracy and stronger community organisation”, the Vice Prime Minister stressed during the event.
To materialise the project, the Government, through the Ministry of Rural Development and Community Housing, has allocated a budget of US$50,000. The Hamlets (aldeias) inhabitants will manage the project, ensuring that the income generated can be reinvested in other local initiatives.
The Vice Prime Minister called on the community to look after the project responsibly, warning that in the event of mismanagement, the Hamlets (aldeias) might not benefit from future projects.
The ministry will continue to provide assistance, including training to empower the community to manage the project sustainably, thus ensuring even more solid and effective economic development for the Hamlets (aldeias).
The Secretary of State for Livestock, José Vieira de Araújo; the Director General for Rural Development, Filipe Cardoso; the Director of Community Housing; the Director General for Corporate Affairs; representatives of the Secretariat of State for Cooperatives; the President of the Liquiçá Municipal Authority; local authorities; community members and other guests attended the ceremony.
