Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture and the Presidency of the Republic organise Science, Technology and Innovation exhibition

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, in collaboration with the Presidency of the Republic, held the Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 on November 15th and 16th on the grounds of the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace. The event highlighted the relevance of science, technology, and innovation for the sustainable development of Timor-Leste, bringing together students, educational institutions, international agencies, and technology companies. 467021217_890424316606870_647994715276665024_n

The initiative, which was part of Timor-Leste's Tourism Promotion Programme, was themed “Science, Technology and Innovation: The Path to Transformation and Sustainable Development in Timor-Leste” and was officially opened by the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta.

At the opening ceremony, the President of the Republic addressed a message “to the students and young people of Timor-Leste” to “focus [their] studies on the areas of science, technology and innovation, to develop creative ideas that [will] allow [them] to contribute to the development process of our country”.

The Head of State also emphasised the impact of Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 because “this exhibition represents more than just a display of technology”, as it embodies our nation's commitment to embracing innovation as a catalyst for sustainable development”. He added that “by investing in science and technology education, we are not just building infrastructure; we are investing in the dreams and skills of our young people who will lead Timor-Leste in the future”. 466972860_890424276606874_8686354807348465660_n

Thirty-six exhibitors, including higher education institutions, public and international agencies, and technology companies, participated in the event. The programme included a higher education fair, presentations of innovative projects, academic competitions, cultural activities, and an international seminar to share experiences and ideas for scientific and technological advancement.
