Timor-Leste and Indonesia Strengthen Co-operation in the Creative Economy and Tourism
On July 29th, 2024, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Nino Pereira, met with the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, in a bilateral meeting held during his working visit to Indonesia. The meeting focused on strengthening economic co-operation between Timor-Leste and Indonesia, with special emphasis on the creative economy and tourism sector.
During the meeting, both ministers explored opportunities for bilateral cooperation, including participation in the international trade exhibition programme that the Government of Timor-Leste, through the Ministry of Trade and Industry, is planning to hold next year. The initiative aims to strengthen commercial ties between the two countries and promote the economic potential of their industries.
‘We invited Minister Sandiaga to take part in this event, which is designed to boost trade and regional creativity,’ said Minister Nino Pereira, emphasising the importance of joint involvement in projects that foster economic growth.
Minister Sandiaga Uno underlined the importance of interconnectivity in the ASEAN region and encouraged Timor-Leste to collaborate in joint tourism development programmes, promoting integration and regional prosperity. In addition, he expressed his interest in supporting Timor-Leste's agricultural sector, with an emphasis on coffee production - a product with high international demand, but which needs investment to increase its production capacity.
