The Government continues to buy, through the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Industry (Portuguese acronym MTCI), local produce supplied by farmers but needs, however, the guarantee of quality and quantity from the production of all farmers, said the Food and Economic General-Inspector (Portuguese acronym IAE), Florentina Smith, at the press conference on Friday, the 8th of October.

The local produce bought by the MTCI is mainly rice, corn, green bean, beans and peanut. The rice and the corn come, mainly, from seven districts: Maliana, Viqueque, Suai, Lospalos, Manufahi and Ainaro, producing around 2.000 tons currently stored in the State Warehouse, in Díli.

The Inspector also added that the MTCI is cooperating with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Solidarity for the distribution of this produce.

The IAE considered that the purchase of the local produce is a success. From October to December the suppliers will continue to have the opportunity to send their produce to be purchased by the Government. This activity is under the competency of the monitoring services that accompany and inspect the quality and quantity demanded by the Government.
