The g7+ Secretariat symbolically inaugurated its office in New York at a ceremony attended by the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development of Sierra Leone and President of the g7+, Kenyeh Barlay. The opening of this new office aims to reinforce coordination between member states and strengthen the organisation's global presence.

This new space in New York marks an important stage in the work of the g7+. It will provide a platform to strengthen collaboration between member countries and increase effectiveness in promoting their priorities in international forums. It will also enable the promotion of partnerships with international organisations, academic institutions, and other stakeholders. 459815176_396434943512840_7966486879082935965_n

Established in 2010 at the initiative of fragile and post-conflict countries during the first International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding, held in Dili, Timor-Leste, the g7+ currently brings together 20 countries from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific. These countries share experiences and promote a model of mutual cooperation called ‘Fragile to Fragile Cooperation’, which aims for sustainable development in essential areas such as security, justice, good governance and financial management. 460979984_396435223512812_8121428475715240949_n

As a founding member, Timor-Leste has played a leading role and has been one of the most active members since its creation. The organisation expanded its influence by obtaining Observer status at the United Nations in 2019 and registering its Charter with the UN Treaty Office in 2021.

With the opening of the new office, the g7+ strengthens its capacity to act as a united voice in favour of the most vulnerable nations, in close collaboration with the United Nations and other partners, to ensure that the priorities of its members are integrated into international agendas. 460981847_396435060179495_8555853616901439677_n
