The IV Constitutional Government gives more importance to the development of a private sector with quality and believes that the micro companies will be motor of sustainable development and job creation. This Government is committed in surpassing obstacles and challenges that impede consolidation and development and, in this sense, the Minister for Economy and Development, João Gonçalves, and the Director for Irish Aid, Eoghan Walsh, signed an Agreement that initiates the Business Opportunities and Support Services (BOSS).

The Irish Government, through its Development Agency, Irish Aid, delivered this Monday, September 20th, to the Ministry of Economy and Development, a budget fund of 5,850.000 euros (US$7,758.624) intended for the Institute of Support to Business Development (Portuguese acronym IADE) for the project’s execution, during four years, by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The project will be delivered to IADE and to the National Directorate of Rural Development (Portuguese acronym DNDR) and is intended for local economy development, in the consolidation of the public services and quality job creation in the rural areas. This objective is only possible through market access by small businesses, through the reinforcement of the local contractors and through the assistance to the commercial development.

The purpose of the BOSS project will be to expand the small businesses market through local participation. In this way, the project supports the Development of the Local Economy (Portuguese acronym DEL), guaranteeing access to markets, supplies and local assistance with quality.

Besides the assistance to the businesses development, as the second purpose of the BOSS project, the Business Development Centre will organize training in commercial management, based on the needs felt by the business persons and will establish a system for information on and promotion of the commercial activities in the Country’s interior.

The project will be specially centred in local contractor’s capacity building, so they may be able to effectively implement Government projects such as infrastructures repair in the rural areas.
