Government of Timor-Leste

The 9th Constitutional Government, through Government Resolution no. 51/2024, of September 13^th, 2024, expresses its deep appreciation and gratitude for the valuable contribution of young people, civil servants, defence and security forces, the media and the population in general, in organising and actively participating in the celebrations of the Apostolic Visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Timor-Leste, which took place between September 9^th and 11^th, 2024. 

During His Holiness' historic visit, the country witnessed a massive and enthusiastic mobilisation, from the warm welcome to the emotional farewell. The 9th Constitutional Government welcomes the “significant participation and active collaboration of the population in general, especially of young people, in all the celebrations during His Holiness Pope Francis’s visit”.

The Government highlights and praises the dedication and commitment of everyone involved in preparing and organising the celebrations, underlining the “excellent preparatory work” “of the organising committee and all those who collaborated with it”. The Government also thanks the coordinated action of the Timor-Leste Defence Forces (F-FDTL) and the Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL), who, as part of the Joint Operational Commitment, ensured the security of all the events, allowing the celebrations to take place in an atmosphere of order and tranquillity. 

The Government also recognises “the work of the media during His Holiness Pope Francis's visit to Timor-Leste”, which ensured comprehensive and quality news coverage and conveyed to the world the importance of this visit for the Timorese people. 

The Government of Timor-Leste thus expresses its sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of this historic occasion and praises “the spirit of unity, festive atmosphere and peace that prevailed throughout the national territory, reflecting the faith of the Timorese and the harmonious environment throughout the country”.
