Interministerial Meeting to Coordinate Security Activities during Official Events

On August 1st, 2024, the government held an inter-ministerial meeting at the Government Palace to coordinate security activities in the context of various events and official visits to the country by prominent personalities. WhatsApp Image 2024-08-02 at 09.05.22

The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and was attended by Agio Pereira, Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers; Sérgio de Jesus Fernandes da Costa Hornai, Minister of Justice; Donaciano do Rosário Gomes, Minister of Defense; Francisco da Costa Guterres, Minister of the Interior; and Longuinhos Monteiro, Director General of the National Intelligence Service.

The aim of the meeting was to ensure effective coordination between the different ministries and security services, to ensure the protection of visitors who will be taking part in important events for Timor-Leste. Among these events is the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Popular Consultation, on August 30th, which will be attended by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, heads of government, governors and other prominent personalities. On August 10th, the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, is scheduled to pay an official visit.
