The Prime Minister continued with the Strategic National Development Plan (SNDP) consultation in the Nitibe sub-district, Oe-Cusse district, on the 15 August.

Before the SNDP consultation, the sub-district Administrator presented the population’s concerns and the sub-district’s geographic condition. The roads and their maintenance, the supply of electrical power , potable water and Education were the motives that drew the sub-district Administrator and the Suco Chiefs to demand the Government’s attention.

The Secretary of State for Public Works, Domingos Caeiro, in response to these questions, ensured the existence of a budget set aside for road maintenance (from Pante Macassar to Nitibe) but weremany years are necessary to carry it through and so that the population can transport their produce to the market. In what concerns the bridges, the Government already has a budget to start this year with the construction of the Tono bridge, from Noe-Fefan. Domingos Caeiro also referred that in the case of one or two more river existing, these also will benefit from the 2011 Budget Plan, although attentions continue to be concentrated on the Tono bridge, of which the construction will take two to three years to be concluded.

On the same occasion, the Secretary of State for Electricity, Water and Urbanization, Januário Pereira, pointed out that since this Government took over, it began a policy to optimize electrical power plants and intends to establish new electrical power plants in the Oe-Cusse enclave, for example at the Nítibe post, with 50 kW, to feed into the distribution line for five Sucos.

In relation to potable water, Januário Pereira referred that his staff will have to investigate the water basins since, with a lack of natural springs, they resort to drilling for water. He also advancedthat if this is not possible one can always resort to the use of recent technologies to filter salt water, which needs time to be implemented.
