Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, on behalf of the Government and the Timorese people, expresses his congratulations to Prabowo Subianto on his election as President of the Republic of Indonesia.

In his congratulatory letter to the new Indonesian President, the Prime Minister acknowledges the “landslide victory in the elections”, which “demonstrates the confidence that the Indonesian people have in your leadership and your vision for the future of your nation”. This election reaffirms the expectation that “with his wisdom and experience”, Prabowo Subianto “will be an exemplary President and a significant regional and global leader”.

Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão considered that at a “time of turbulence and change in international relations, Indonesia has a central role to play in promoting cooperation, tolerance and peace” and that under the leadership of the new President, “Indonesia also will become a global economic power”, “which will help boost economic growth and prosperity in our region”.

In his letter, the Leader of Government emphasised that “Timor-Leste and Indonesia have a strong bilateral relationship, based on friendship and cooperation” and that “together, our countries provide a global model for reconciliation and the transformative power of dialogue and trust”. He expressed his confidence that, under the leadership of the President-elect, “bilateral relations will be further strengthened” and that “he looks forward to working together on issues of mutual interest”.
