New Directors and Chiefs of Department in the Minister of Finance

Five Directors and four Chiefs of Department took office in the Ministry of Finance, on the 30th July, as a consequence of the institutional reform that the Ministry has been doing since August 2007.

The new Directors were appointed to the National Directorate of Customs (Brígida da Silva), National Directorateof State Property Management (Januário Gama), National Directorate of Petroleum Revenues (Mónica da Cruz), National Directorate of External Assistance Efficiency (José Abílio) and National Directorate of Statistics (Elias Ferreira). The new Chiefs of Department will occupy their posts in the Departments for Internal Audit (Hermingardo Soares), External Assistance Accompaniment (João Coimbra) Budget Transfers Supervision (Leonardo Magno) and Administrative Support (Martinho Lopes).

The Minister of Finance stated that, although there are still vacancies to fulfil, with these appointments the essential needs of the Ministry will be fulfilled, also because the majority of these new elements carried out functions before being formally appointed.

Emília Pires pointed out the importance of two of the appointments. The new National Director of Customs, whose appointment coincides with the modernization initiatives that are being done in the Timor-Leste Customs Services, aiming to achieve the goals of the “World Class Customs Organization”. And the appointment for the Internal Audit Department, that, according to the Minister, will contribute for the improvement of the efficiency of the budget absorption, as well as bring more confidence to the financing report, to fraud investigation and the State Asset safekeeping.
