SECOMS strengthens bilateral cooperation during official visit to Australia
On February 14th and 15th, the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Expedito Loro Dias Ximenes, paid a working visit to Canberra, Australia, to take part in discussions promoted by the National Press Club of Australia on climate change, as well as to meet with various entities to develop partnerships in the media sector.
The event dedicated to climate change was attended by journalists and other senior media experts, focusing on the significant economic impacts caused by climate change.
The National Press Club of Australia, founded in 1963, aims to serve as a forum for exchanging ideas and information between media professionals, politicians, business people and other prominent leaders.
The Secretary of State also visited DAM smart, a company specialising in audiovisual digitisation service, to discuss possibilities for collaboration in the digitisation process of the national public radio and television company, RTTL EP.
Meetings were held with the heads of Australia’s media regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), and Australia’s leading public broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), to discuss cooperation possibilities for training journalists, emphasising investigative journalism.
Expedito Ximenes also visited the Australian Parliament House, the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian Museum of Democracy.
José António Belo "Taraleu", Chairman of RTTL EP, and Eligio Moniz do Rego, Vice Executive Director of Technology, Informatics and Communication at the ICT-Timor IP, accompanied the Secretary of State on this official trip to Australia.
