The Council of Ministers recommends the purchase of 150,000 passport books and passport printing machines
At its meeting on February 21st 2024, the Council of Ministers recommended that the Minister of Justice carry out a direct procurement procedure to purchase 150,000 passport books and two passport printing machines to guarantee supplies for the coming years.
Since taking office, the 9th Constitutional Government has been committed to solving the problem of the lack of passports.
Following the Council of Ministers' decision of September 27th, 2023, a procurement process was launched for the urgent award of Electronic Passport books. In October, the first batches of passport books arrived in Timor-Leste. Since then, several deliveries have taken place, making it possible to ensure the necessary supplies for the year 2024.
In addition, on January 18th, 2024, the Ministry of Justice, through the General Directorate of Registry and Notary Services, launched an 'online' scheduling application to optimise the efficiency and effectiveness of services while avoiding crowds at service points.
