Minister of Justice and CAC Commissioner discuss Law that regulates the Criminal Investigation Police

The Minister of Justice, Lúcia Lobato, and the Anti-corruption Commission Commissioner (CAC), Adérito de Jesus Soares, discussed, this Monday, the 19th July, the Law that regulates the Criminal Investigation Police, which is being prepared by the Government.
According to the Minister of Justice “the Justice sector still lacks a Police for Criminal Investigation. As we all know, at this time there is only one investigation section which is located in PNTL and thus cannot perform a capable investigation”.
“The Criminal Investigation Police can be compared to the Court of Audit and the CAC cannot act without a police corp with competency to organize investigations”, highlighted the Minister.
“The Court of Audit is the one that will verify how the State’s money has been spent, that which was approved by the National Parliament. Thus, to award the larger sized projects, it is necessary to send these to this Court so it can analyse them according to legal proceedings”, clarified Lúcia Lobato.
“In this sense, when the Court of Audit starts to function, it will guarantee a good budget execution, thus avoiding corruption”, concluded the Minister.
On the same occasion, the Commissioner for the Anti-Corruption Commission, Adérito de Jesus Soares, had the opportunity to clarify that “as we all know, the Government, at this time, is preparing a Law that regulates the Criminal Investigation Police because it is still not constituted. Thus, the current criminal investigation that takes place does not sufficiently support the Public Prosecutor’s services, in the sense of performing the investigations before the cases are sent to the Court”.
