The Government starts this July, the purchase of local agricultural produce.

The announcement was made by the Economic and Food Inspector-General, Florentina Smith, at a meeting with suco chiefs, village chiefs, NGO’s and other local authorities of Maubisse, which took place in this sub-district, on July 16th.

The purchase, which will take place until the end of the year, is made through a local company on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Industry (MTCI). The produce are: rice with husk (name in Tetum Hare-kulit), corn (Batar), soybean (Foremungu), beans (Koto), black beans (Forekeli) and peanuts (Fore rai).

"The notice regarding this program was published in June through the media. The Companies or individuals who are interested in becoming suppliers of local produce, should contact the Office of Economic and Food Inspection (Portuguese acronym IAE) which is in MTCI building in Matadouro, Díli, to prepare the necessary documentation and celebrate a contract, "said Florentina Smith.

The IAE Inspector-General emphasized that the program aims to "help farmers to open up the market for local products”.

"I think that starting this July, until December this year, this relevant program has to be working. So from now on, we will come down to the bases to dialogue with local authorities and civil society. Thus, the information on this program will reach the entire community" concluded the Economic and Food Inspector-General.
